Martin was a model citizen and heavily involved in community and youth affairs from a very early age.
Martin demonstrated a good working knowledge and a balanced approach to political affairs. This talent, combined with his journalist/public relations background and his caring personality made Martin a great achiever in the short span of his life. Martin could relate well to people of all ages, always displaying empathy and a willingness to lend a helping hand when needed.
Martin possessed many admirable traits in a person so young.
On the 15th July 2004, a dark night on a country road, also the apogee of the moon, Martin's car slammed into the side of a 40 tonne semi trailer which was across the road blocking both lanes of traffic. Martin was killed instantly, his mother Dawn, in the passenger seat was critically injured.

Some of Martin's many achievements were... Martin commenced square dancing very early in life and at the age of four, knew all the Plus Definitions. His two sisters, Anita and Alana aged five and six were also square dancers. While attending Primary school Martin would pen Letters to the Editor of the local Mackay newspaper, and also took part in his school’s debating team. 1990: At the age of twelve, Martin was figuring out how to become involved in the Australian Political scene. 1993: At the age of 14, he took up work experience with former Member for Dawson politician. He then went on to join the National Party and later became a Life Member. 1994/1995/1996: Martin formed part of the Young Nationals Champion Debating Team. 1997 - 2001: Martin served almost 5 years in the Army Reserves. 1998: Martin became Queensland National Youth Ambassador. He also became President of the Australian Flag Association. 1999: Martin became the Caller for his Club, the “Mackay & District Square Dancing Club” Martin was Campaign Director for the NO REPUBLIC in the seat of Dawson. 2001: Martin graduated from the University of Southern Queensland with a degree in Public Relations, Journalism, and Communications. 2002: Martin was Co-convenor with his mother Dawn, for the Queensland State Square Dance Convention held in Mackay. Martin was also a member of the Australian National Youth Square Dance Council. 2003. Martin was a member of the Australian Family Association. He spoke at an Australian Family Association Conference. His oration was regarded by all in attendance, as best of the conference. 2003: Martin attended the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington DC. He was the only representative of the 4,000 delegates from the Asian Pacific Region. 2004: Martin was the successful Campaign Director for both Ted Malone, State Member for Mirani, and his friend, Councillor George Christensen. Martin is a former President of the Queensland Young Nationals, and has since been given an Honorary Life Membership of the Young Nationals. The National Party is now know as the LNP. |
